I made this cake for my daughters first birthday party which had a Champagne & Cupcakes theme (obviously the champagne wasn't for the 1 year olds!!). I made two large round cakes, iced them together and then shaved them into shape. I sat them on top of an up-turned cake tin to gain height and then made a patty pan out of wrapping paper and covered the tin with that. The icing is all buttercream, and the cake was simply golden buttercake. A real hit!
