My Very First Wedding Cake

My Very First Wedding Cake on Cake Central

The very first wedding cake I've ever made and my first time working with fondant. I used MMF (went on like a dream) and handmade edible pearls. I've never had classes. The cake is red w/ white trim because the bride's dress was white w/ red trim. The 12" cake: White Chocolate w/ White Chocolate whipped cream filling, the 10" cake: Carrot Cake w/Cream Cheese Filling, the 8" cake: Coconut Cake w/ Lemon Supreme filling, and the 6" cake was half White Chocolate, half Chocolate. I loved doing this!

You're right about the MMF sash! I put this cake together only minutes before everyone arrived, and by then, it was too late to change it. I wish I would either have made it much thinner, or left if off completely. Next time I'll know! I thank all of you for your wonderful comments!

First off, what an amazing cake! For your first wedding cake ever, it sure has a lot to it.....different flavors/fillings and RED! How in the world did you manage to get the fondant so red??? I know you had to add a lot of red, gel or paste, and knead for about three days!

Beautiful cake !! I agree with 'cakemommy' on the color red. Also please could you post the recipe for white chocolate cake and coconut cake in the recipes section.

WOW WOW WOW, I am getting married in April and my wedding colors are red and white. Do you mind if I kind of "steal" your idea for this cake? LOL It is just so magnificent. I was wondering if the MMF was really strong tasting since you used red. I know even when I color buttercream icing with red you can taste the red. Even the Wilton Red gel paste that is supposedly "tasteless" tastes red. Just wondering.

BEAUTIFUL!!! i can't believe you never took any classes! you have AMAZING talent :) ...how do you make the pearls?

Thanks everyone! I will post the recipes for the White Chocolate Cake & the Coconut Cake. The edible pearls are made of MMF fondant rolled out to 1/8" thick and cut with a #12 decorating tip. I then rolled them into little balls (600 of them) placed them in a plastic bag with Super Pearl Dust, and shook gently. Actually, you can find the directions for making these pearls on the website: earlenescakes.com/prlinstruct.htm

That is a beautiful cake! The only thing is I just keep having visions of everyone all dressed up for the wedding walking around the reception with red lips and tongues!! LOL

To SAD: Yes, it is perfectly okay to use the idea, afterall I found my idea on this site also. SPANKY, MMF stands for MarshMallow Fondant. Thanks, everyone, for your comments!

Thank you. I added a lot of Wilson's Tasteless Red Gel coloring to the fondant. It's been a while, but I think I used about 3 of the 1oz. jars. I also blended it into the melted marshmallows before adding the confectioner's sugar. It still takes a great deal of kneading, but not quite as much as it would have had I added it afterwards.

This cake is beautiful. I have never seen a red cake like this one. I do me sons b-day cakes and my oldest wanted bat man and the only way that I could get a true black is be painting the color on the cake after it was made, but it didn't turn out very elegant. My little sis. is getting married and her colors are red and ivory. How did you get the cake so red?
