Ocean Cake

Ocean Cake on Cake Central

This is in accompaniment to the fish cake. The first layer is WASC with BC, the second layer is WASC with Strawberry preserves, and the last one is Dreamcycle (from CC recipes) with a layer of WASC (orange, white, orange). This was my first try at brush embroidery and painting chocolate shells. I didnt like the molds I purchased as they lacked the details I wanted. So I bought food safe putty and made them myself. Many thanks to sunlover00, & fytar for their willingness to help and wonderful tips.

critique group member: sorry I agree with tiptop on the board (gold would have complimented the ivory better)and the shells being grouped together as well, With that said...you shells are VERY realistic looking! I am impressed that you took it upon yourself to make your own molds! wow! These cakes are a very nice compliment to the fish cake. I think the brush embroidery is a very nice touch...Very professional work again...nice clean look! ;)

Critique subgroup member: very impressive that you took the time to look for something more detailed than the regular molds. I don't like the molds either. I agree about the cake board sizing, but I prersonally like the grouped shells. They are all beautifully designed.

Its funny, but the center shells are actually given by the bride as her topper... the shells on the outskirts were the chocolates haha. but point taken on the boards... I oredered them online, then realized they were the wrong size but too late. The bride said absolutely no gold... I agreed that the gold would be better. The putty I got at Hobby Lobyy in the clay/soap making aisle.

Critique subgroup member: Very nice group of cakes this & the fish! Your brush embroidery is lovely. And the color compliments the grooms cake. Here are two areas for immediate improvement: As everyone in the group knows, I'm a cake board freak & yours are the wrong size. When not tiered they should be two to 3 inches bigger then the cake. Then I don't think I would have bunched all the shells in the middle the little points bug me for some reason. Either way these are lovely & I bet you get tons of or...

critique subgroup member: wow, those shells are amazing, they look so real! your rope borders are very consistent and I like the colors. There are a couple wavy spots in the fondant, no biggie. and not to be repetative, but like the others said, the size is important with cake boards as is your color choice for cake board covers. It all becomes part of the cake! overall very pretty cake and well done!

Critique Subgroup Member: Beautiful cakes. The shells are awesome -- very realistic and the brush embroidery looks nice, but I can't really see it too well in this photo. I'm sure the sea-loving bride and groom loved these cakes!

Critique subgroup member: These are really pretty, but the picutre is small and the details are hard to see. But they sure look pretty. I like the shells very much. Perhaps some "sand" around the edges next time? Otherwise, really great!

Critique Subgroup Member: All other comments being made, I'll go on. I thinl the cakes should have been displayed at different heights, like steps. That way they are set for a little more attention so the fish compliments, not competes. Other than that these cakes are lovely!
