Thanks everyone- they did take FOREVER! The stripes drove me a bit mad but the rest was fun. Jen- the cakes were 3"x3" - a bit of an awkward size as they are really too big for one person. Next time I'd go for 2"X2"
This is a nice variation of the Peggy Porschen stripy rose cakes I told a friend I would make one day when she gets married. I don't think I have the patience to do all the stripes though :wink: Into my favorites :)

Michelle, yes there's a layer of buttercream under the stripes to hold them in place.
