Gumball Machine

Gumball Machine on Cake Central

Critique Subgroup Member: Replica of Jeanne's (jkalman) cake made with permission from the original artist. ;-D Stacked and carved four 6" cakes, covered with SMBC and Satin Ice Red fondant. Top, or cap, of machine just appears crooked due to a shadow -- it was a perfect circle. Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

Critique Subgroup Member: it looks awesome! you did a fantastic job- the coloring, the fondant work- it's all great! It looks like it would be such a fun cake to make! excellent job on getting the silver nice and rich looking

critique subgroup member: omg, this cake is soooo cool! what did you use for the glass bowl? i really have no critique. it does look like the whole cake is leaning, but like you said, it may just be the shadow. well done!

Thanks, girls! No, the cake was checked several times with a carpenter's level ...it's the bad photo. The $2 glass bowl was from AC Moore.

critique subgroup member: This looks really great. I like the design on the silver. The color is perfect and I like how you put a gumball in the little tray. The only flaws I see have been mentioned and are merely photo flaws...not cake flaws. Nicely done.

Critique Subgroup Member: Wonderful gumball machine! Well done. (BTW you don't need permission to make a cake similar to someone else's, especially this one which was done by Duff first. Just acknowledge the artist design for your inspiration.) Anyway, I would have put a smooth rope around the base also to match the top and to seal it. Be proud - it's cool!

Critique Group member: Awwe.. it looks great!! You just put the gumballs in before you put the top on (for the one who asked). Thanks for the nod Crazy.. I really like the cut outs you used for the detailing on the face plate too. :D

Thanks everyone :) I only did glass because it was an adult's birthday; however, I'll certainly use a plastic fish bowl for any future cakes. Mbrock: The gumballs were put into the bowl and I hot glued a cardboard circle on top to hold them in before I flipped it over and secured it to the cake with a dowel.

critique group member. WOW this fantastic. I don't see anything wrong with it at all! I agree with tiptop that a rope border on the bottom would be a nice touch. Fantastic job!

Critique Subgroup Member: This is fantastic--I love it and can't find a single thing to critique. The way you finished it looks more realistic, in my opinion, then if you had put a rope on the bottom border.

Critique Group Member: How can I critque something so perfect :D ? A couple of gumpaste quarters would look nice laying on the cake board  .
