Piping Practice on Cake Central

Critique group member- any feedback welcome All buttercream. I was practicing my piping. I already see some areas of improvement needed ie the swirls leave something to be desired. LOL

Critique subgroup member: Practice cakes - hmmm, I be so fat! LOL I use dummies...... I can't get over how smooth your icing is! I think you are still going to fast with your piping. Slow down and look at how you really want to place your design such as the swirls. If your BC is crusted you can use a paint brush to pick up the bits and try again....You really have the straight lines down pat and they are hard to do!

Critique subgroup member: What a great way to practice piping. When making the swirls are you holding the tip close to the cake or up a few inches? I only ask because if you hold it up a few inches you will be able to control the icing into a swirl better.

Critique group member: The border looks a little inconsistent and kind of squashed and I agree with you that the swirls could use some help. Overall it's a nice practise cake and I bet it wasreally yummy to eat!

critique subgroup member: I have nothing to add to what others said about the piping- practice is just that- practice. Still, I actually like the design of the cake itself- it's very whimsical and just enough to not be too busy with the different shapes. Your straight lines are extremely impressive. Your border is perfect :)

Critique Group Member: I was thinking the same thing as Sylly. It's a cute Whimsy cake :D . This is a great way to practice piping. Taking a pic gives even more perspective to see needed improvements. I ought to try that. Thanks for the idea.
