Gumpaste crib - basic design from Linda Pawsey's Christening Cakes book. Dummy cake covered with fondant & gumpaste roses. This cake was so much fun to do. The crib was deceptively easy though it took all week with all the various drying times!
Thanks. :) The crib is made by cutting a bit of foam into an oval shape and then taping a cardboard strip around it (I just cut up a tissue box). Then cut a strip of gumpaste & wrap it round & leave to dry. I used a garrett frill cutter for the sides, folding them using the end of a paintbrush (cont...)
The canopy is done the same way but in 2 parts left to dry. Attached with royal icing (& a strip added at the top for more strength) & supported by foam until dry. Then a bit is added to the back. A bit of gumpaste is added to make the bottom sheet & then a baby head & blanket added. If I'm not clear on any of this, let me know. :)
