Lakeshore 2
This was my second Lakeshore cake, my friend liked the one I did for my family and asked me to make a version of it for her. The cake is covered in buttercream with fondant and royal icing accents for the boats, lighthouse, and sun. The lighthouse also has brown sugar for the sand.
Critique group member: Your rope boarder is perfect! You need to make sure that your cutouts fit the cake size. I turn my pans over and measure everything prior to even baking. The sun splat is fun. Iam also thinking one of the sail boats needs to be a different color to mix it up a bit. Maybe a little yellow sailboat and then add a little red to the lighthouse. When putting on your fondant border remember there is a back to the cake so your seem doesn't show up to the viewer.
Oh one more: that rope is perfect, did you use an fondant extruder or rope mold?
Critque group member: I love the darker shade of blue...I think it's really pretty. Your rope border is amazing. The bc along the side could be smoother. I think the cake board is too big for this cake.
critique subgroup member: I kind of like the way the lighthouse sticks over the edge, adds a different dimension. The blues are a bit dark and unappetizing for me. Awesome job on the rope border! Glad to see you have been covering your cake boards!

Critique group member: I love the way the darker blue has texture...like water would. I absolutely LOVE the border but, as Tiptop mentioned, try to remember to hide that seam! :) I would have liked to see this displayed on a more exciting board....maybe even one covered in more brown sugar or something. Nice cake!
Critique Group Member: Yep! Great rope border (thats what I was trying to achieve on my Thanksgiving cake - maybe you can teach me!?). My suggestion would be to have done something different with your water; I think you were trying to get a wave effect (?) - maybe tinted some light blue for some foam. Also would suggest the lighthouse be smaller - like its off in the distance. Love, love, love your sun!
