Steve's Armadillo Cake

My take on the Steel Magnolias Armadillo Groom's Cake......... I wanted him to be laying down, but my husband insisted that he be standing up. 2 sheet cakes and 1 football cake carved..... all red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream, covered in marshmallow fondant and airbrushed. Head, ears, feet and tail are all rice krispy treats.

:o Soooo cool! Glad your husband "insisted"--this is the most life-like armadillo cake I've ever seen! I want and airbrush!!! So, are there dowels in each leg holding up the body?I asume they are holding up a board for the cake...???

There are so many dowel rods in this cake!! Yes, there's a board underneath the body of the cake and dowel rods are attached to the board. :D

Nice job one the armadillo. Can you tell me what cream cheese recipe you used. Did it have to be refrigerated, if so how did the mmf hold up after.

I used a crusting cream cheese recipe (you can pm me if you'd like the recipe).... I decorated the entire cake and then just left it on the counter overnight and it was fine. It was really cold here (40s at night) and we didn't turn on our heater.

Yep, everything is attached with dowel rods.

Honestly, I have no idea how many it fed. It's a football and 2 sheet cakes carved........ lots of cake though.
