Fish Cake

Fish Cake on Cake Central

Thanks so much to Sweetpea8 for the idea for this cake. I think her cake looks soooo much better -she made it look alot easier than it really was! This is a yellow cake (CC's Super Enhanced Cake) with buttercream frosting. Fins, note and worm are made from fondant. This cake is for a friend's 5 year old's party tomorrow - hopefully it'll get there in one piece! Thanks so much for looking.

i love your cake...i need to make one for my girlfriend who is a wbt member..Serious Fisher woman...did you make your scales with a tip. I have used the straws from an icee..just curious. Also did you spray paint?? and your fins...fondant. Thanks for the ideas :)

lam0320 - thanks for your comments! I followed Sweetpea 8's directions as closely as I could. I iced the top half in juniper green, bottom half in yellow. Then I mixed the two colors where they met. This would have been easier with an airbrush, but I don't have one. I did use a little orange Wilton food spray in the middle. I did use an icing tip for the scales, but my icing was too soft. If it had been stiffer, the scales would have stood out more-they look better on the picture

lam0320 - (ran out of space!) The Icee straw sounds like it would work well for the scales-sometimes I got full circles instead of half circles. The fins were fondant-I made the creases with a credit card. To color the fins, I used a combo of food spray and juniper green (mixed with gin-I didn't have any vodka) using a paint brush.
