"the Towering Inferno"

"the Towering Inferno" on Cake Central

Aptly nicknamed "the Towering Inferno", this 6 tier delight is the largest cake I've ever done. None of it would have been possible without the help of my ever-so-patient and wonderful cake teacher Karen Sass. Thanks Karen!!! I couldn't have done it without you! The top and bottom tier were dummies, the four tiers in between were WASC and lemon cakes with a fresh flower topper. Overall it wasn't that difficult but very time consuming. We had fun doing it though!

I just realized -- this picture is the BACK of the cake -- which is why it looks a bit wonky at the top. Oh well! I still think it looks good, and more importantly the customer was happy! :D

I did want to add that I asked CC's own Doug to draw up a sketch of this cake when I was designing it so I could use it for the customer. He graciously did and that sketch is under the sketches gallery. Thanks Doug!! :D

I just used dowel rods. Several in each tier and a center support rod. By the time we were finished with it, the cake weighed probably between 125 and 150 pounds and was taller than me!
