The bottom borders on tier 1 and 2 are a very small shell there is no border on the bottom tier because the plate was not really big enough to accomodate it and the fabric that was attached to the cake stand was going to hide it some anyway. I would have put a slightly bigger plate under the bottom tier but I didn't see the cake stand until I arrived at the hall to set up the cake, and the dimensions I had from the Wilton yearbook indicated that 13 3/4" was the maximum diameter.
