Thanks, cakemakinmom! I'm not that experienced, myself. The most helpful tips I was given were to use medium consistency for the petals, and use Hershey's Kisses for the base -- it gives you a much firmer base to practice on.

What gave your roses their 'sparkle'? Very pretty!

Thanks guys. The sparkle is from crushed Wilton edible sugar, a trick my Course I teacher was fond of. By the way, geez I apologize for uploading the picture twice -- I'm still such a newbie
