Lavendar Roses And Scrolls

4 tier wedding cake I did today. 4 flavors: bottom: carrot w/ white choco. cream cheese filling, next - yellow w/ choco. mousse; choco. w/ rasp. cream, and top white w/ mocha cream. Both cream fillings and frosting were Italian Meringue. Hand-piped scrolls; all roses, hydrangeas, leaves & monogram were handmade from gumpaste. Bride had a topper (pure white and didn't go with the cake...so it didn't go on.. some extra flowers completed the top. Coordinator told the Bride & she gave the OK to leave it off.

HOLY CAKE!!! Did you do those roses? They are spectacular if you did them...and the cake is just AweSOME

Did I say I love your piped scrolls? Lovely cake! Was humidity a problem for you? I notice you work a lot with buttercream frostings, how to you exactly handle it so it doesn't get ruined?

on

Hey Godiva! No, humidity is never really a problem.. the BC gets hard in the fridge, plus central air and an additional AC in the kitchen keeps everything nice an chilly! (Including the artist!) The buttercream hold up very well in warm weather. Most of my events are inside, but my Sis's grad party was outside and the cake help up beautifully!

Besides the flowers (lovely) and the monogram (very nice) and the swirls (perfect) the individual dots that you added are a finishing touch that make the cake look complete, but in no way over done. They are the perfect touch.

I don't know if this is rude to ask or not, but with all the beautiful handmade flowers, the detail on each cake, and the four different kinds of filled cakes, what would you charge for something like this?

on

Absolutely Beautiful. Very elegant. Do you mind sharing how you do your lettering? I was looking at your other pictures and I love your lettering as well as your scroll work.

puckett - my buttercream cakes start at $4 a slice and go up from there depending on the additions they want on the cake. My gumpaste flowers are pricey because they are time consuming and full of detail. The brides that get recommended to me know they are getting top quality cakes, so they don't question my prices at all. The flowers on this cake came to over $250 alone. That didn't include the top... if you see above - the bride had a topper, but I used x-tra flowers I brought instead (for free).

You did a great job!! Your cake is beautiful. Your flowers are perfect. Your second picture shows the detail so well.!! Great work.

Kim - the cakes took me a little over 3 hours to level, fill, frost and scroll... The flowers were started last month. There were about 60 hydrangeas, 15 big roses and 10 rose buds on the cake.

on

Thanks for the pricing. You do the most beautiful flowers, I can't imagine that anyone would question the price. Absolutely magnificent cakes!!

you're scroll work is awesome, and your flowers... They look real. Congratulations on a very beautiful cake.

What a spectacular job you did!! OMG that scroll work is just gorgeous .. congrats on a very very beautiful cake!! I know the bride had to of loved it!

on

Thanks ladies - I was pleased with how the top came out... the flowers were really only towards the front of the top, so you couldn't tell the back was slightly bare!

This cake is absolutely gorgeous! I have a client looking for the same thing but just plum flowers. The scoll work is beautiful. This will be my first wedding cake and I would like your opinion on the pricing. My client has a $350.00 budget! Do you think that this is reasonable for this type of cake.

on

not if you're putting as many flowers on it as I did. I price by the slice, flowers are always additional. It also depends on what the market is for wedding cakes in your area If you only charged $350, I would suggest a smaller cake so you can accommodate for the flowers. How many guests?

on

She wants to feed only 150 people because they are serving other deserts has well. What pan sizes did you use?

on

This cake is lovely. One solution to make the white topper go with the cake is to make a white icing, even something like a whipped icing mix if the bride hates shortening, to do the scrollwork and borders. The subtle two tone effect is pretty and it gets you out of a pickle with the bride. But I don't think this cake could be any prettier!

:o I love purple and what a beautiful shade. The cake is beautiful. I saved this to my photos in case I wish to duplicate it. I have a few wedding cakes posted on this site and my family say's no one decorates like me. I told them to visit this site and be prepared to be blown away. Your cake is out of this world. GREAT JOB!

I don't know how I missed this one! I love it! I love the tones of your flowers and your scrollwork is incredible!
