Rattle Baby Shower Cake

Rattle Baby Shower Cake on Cake Central

Carrot cake and chocolate cake with sugarpaste. Made this cake for a friend's baby shower. The rattles were on the invitation and the colours are her nursery colours. Used my sugargun to make the ribbons, what a pleasure! Saw the buttons idea on this site.

I am doing a cake this weekend for a friend and I just adore your rattles. They are so small and dainty. Could you please tell me how you did them? Thanks!

Thank you for your kind comments! The rattles are not really that small, CakeCraze - they're about 8cm long. For the head I shaped a ball of sugarpaste and cut it in half. the stem - roll (or sugargun) and the handle is a thick sugarpaste disk that I made a hole in with a paintbrush handle and then enlarged it a bit. Once the stick dried a bit, I pushed into the halved ball and pushed the handle on as well. Then added a little strip (sugargun) onto the half ball and added RI dots. Then the bow. That's it!

A sugargun is like a clay extruder - a tube with a plunger, pushing the sugarpaste through a shaped opening at the bottom, wide and thin for ribbons, clover shaped for rope etc.
