i love this cake !! my mom in law is korean and her birthday is next month - i might give it a try although mine will look like a child did it!! how did you make the bamboo ???

thanks guys! this one was fun to make. Delivered it this weekend and I had to serve it...hard to bring myself to massacre my work of art, a little fun though!

the bamboo: I worked some ivory dye into the gumpaste, not all the way, a little marbley. then rolled out approx. 1 in. strips on greased wax paper and folded the top end over on itself and stuck it to itself about an inch down or so. then pinched it around a greased cake dowel and let it dry over night. then painted them with a paintbruch dipped in vodka, then straight into brown dye and used it mosxt densely around the top where the fold is and then made random strokes to give it a natural look.

everybody thought it was real, and everyone at the wedding wanted a piece of bamboo! i warned them it was flavorless, they thought it was so cool!
