I like to use the CK candy writers to fill in small areas, but other than that, you just melt the candy wafers (I like Merkens), and then tint. You can use a pastry bag or cut a hole in a ziploc bag and fill in your outline. I like using the black candywriter for the outline too. The candywriters dry really fast too.
