I stacked for 8 inch round cakes with buttercream in between. Then I used a knife to carve off about an inch at the top, gradually slicing out to the outer edge of the bottom layer. This made it narrower at the top than at the bottom. A cake board was underneath the bottom layer. Then I placed a 6 inch cake board on the top of the stacked cakes. Dowel rod thru layers.
The ring of fondant helps hold the glass bowl (cheap at craft stores...many sizes available). Filled with bbgum and covered another cake board for the top. Luster dust on all gray fondant to make it look metalic. Silver dragees in different sizes as bolts, etc. :-)
where did you get the plastic clear bowl for the gumballs??????? and what type of pan did you use for the base???? this is sooooo cute and you did a great job :D
