My Version Of Martha Stewart's Chocolate Scrollwork Cake
Bottom tier is a 3" tall 14" round cake, carved to make the top rounded; other three tiers are 2-layer petal-shaped cakes. All cakes are covered in fondant and the scrollwork and borders are chocolate truffle icing. Bottom two tiers are mango cake with mango cream filling, and the top two tiers are french vanilla cake with fresh strawberry filling. The bride is a close family friend, and she is Indian. She wanted her cake to look like the mehndi designs that are painted on Indian brides' hands and feet.

Thank you all SO much for your kind comments. Of course, I can see every little flaw on the cake, but the bride was thrilled, so I'm happy. Amy729 ... the scrollwork was all freehand. It took several hours, but it wasn't too bad.

Great work, I have just had a mehndi design recently and I said to the girl, "Hey that's easy - that's just like cake decorating!!" You have good repetition of the design - well spaced.

SPECTACULAR!! Ok, I gotta ask....I dont even know if this is legal or not...but can I ask how much you would charged for this cake???? It had to be so time consuming...not to mention beautiful. You are so talented to be able to do this freehanded. Hope I'm not in trouble for asking that one! :twisted:
I would be happy to tell you how much I charged for this cake, except that I didn't charge a penny!! 8O It was for a very close family friend, and my mom and I offered to make her wedding cake for her. I would charge a lot if I did it again for a customer, though!! Probably at least $5 per serving.
This is a very beautiful and eyecatching design. Great job on the scrollwork.
