Flip Flops On Beach

Flip Flops On Beach on Cake Central

Made this for my daughter's 4th birthday. The flip flops are her show size, and she absolutely loves the beach. 11x15 yellow w/choc bc. Flip flops are cake covered in fondant. Fondant rocks, flowers, sandal straps, "boards" border, and hand molded sand dollar. I loved making this cake -- labor of love! Didn't intend to make the "fence-like" border, but thought it was great once I got started on it and really liked the final outcome.

Critique subgroup member: I love this! The sand dollar is fantastic. It looks so real. You asked what else you could have done with the board.....I would have added some "sand" and some more rocks and sea shells around the base. Besides all that minor stuff, this cake is really cool!

Critique Subgroup Member: I agree with adding a bit of sand and some rocks to the board to carry the design through. I wonder if a blue or sand-color board would extend the idea just a bit more also. Very cute cake. I like the detail on the flip flops.

Critique Subgroup Member: Really great cake, Sarah. Excellent job on all aspects: flip flops adorable, rocks and shell so lifelike, love the water and beach and the fence was a great idea. I might have made the fence a teeny bit higher and brought the sand and water all the way to the edge, but that's just me. For the board, I'm torn between sand (with rocks and shells) and extending the fence boards out to the board to be like a boardwalk. Outstanding work! :D

Critique subgroup member: Love this cake! Great job with the water, flip flops, sand and shells. It is a great rendition of a beach cake and a nice take off of the flip flops. I think I even like your "Florida" colored fence. For the cake board, this would have been one cake you could have left with the plain silver foil, because it had so much going on top of the board :D Another option is a boardwalk or continue the sea and beach.

critique group member: Awesome cake!! Love the water and the flip flops!! I do think that you could have put fondant on the board, blue like others have mentioned and some rocks and sand!! This cake is just wonderful!! Oh, how did you do the water??

Critique group member: Cute! I love the flip flops and the way the stripes tye in with the sand!I think perhaps it with have been good to have done the cake board in the same color as the sand and possible the water.

Critique Subgroup Member: I like tiptop's idea of making the board look like a boardwalk, extending the sand and water would have nullified the fence. This cake is toooo cute and very well done! I use piping gel for water too and I just love the outcome!!! excellent cake. Everything looks so well done!!!!
