Like making a soft-serve cone at a fast food restaurant! I picture the cupcake as a clock and I pipe counterclockwise around.
I like the top left one. I don't think they look terrible at al! 2 or 2.5 times around is good, but remember, that's also a lot of frosting and not everyone likes that. Were you planning on additional decoration or stopping with just icing? That also makes a difference.
