35Th Anniversary
I forgot it was my parents anniversary today...35th no less. So I decided to start baking last night, got up early decorate today. It is not my favorite cake, I think I was rushing a little so I made some mistakes. I tried the stenciling for the first time. I clearly need more practice. A bunch of the icing got underneath the stencil and i was a little disappointed. I think I need to take my time. But I definitely want to try it again!
must be a good camera angle, I still need lots of practice with fondant! But what does help me is to roll out the fondant much larger than the cake, not too thin. Some people like the raise up the cake, but that just hasnt worked for me yet, so I do it flat on the table.
I think your stenciling looks fantastic! This is a wonderful cake!
I think you did a lovely job. I like the classic simple look. Noce writing too. Is it choc fondant? :)
Thanks for the nice words. Yes it is chocolate mmf.
that cake is beautiful, where do you purchase your stencils from?
I just got it from Joann, it is just a stencil people would use paint with. There is a place to get cake stencils from (designerstencils.com)
Merissa, I have one more question. Can you tell me where did you get your recipe for chocolate mmf? What is the border that you have around the cake what is that made out of? Also, what flavor of cake is under there? I am at the very beginning stages of decorating, I amazed everytime I see a work of art made out of such simple materials.
licia: I just made mmf and added in a small amount of dark cocoa to the melted marshmallows (only do a little at a time because it will turn black if you put too much in! I did that by accident once!) The ivory border is royal icing the the bottom border is chocolate buttercream. The cake is chocolate with whipped chocolate ganache filling.
This is one of the most perfect fondant covered cake I have ever seen!! Do you have any tips? 8O
Nice Job!
I think the stenciling is awesome!
Oh my goodness, I want a piece! I am a total chocoholic, thanks for sharing how to do choc. mmf!!
Very nice job! I'd love to try stenciling in icing, but I'm too chicken!
