Thank you everyone for the positive feedback. I used two 9" rounds and two 8" rounds (both were 3" deep). I froze them so that once I stacked them it was easier to shape. I got the cherry shiny by painting it with Wilton fondant food writers and then putting in the fridge for about 15 minutes.
So so fun! I love it! Another great idea for a cake for my DD's 2nd birthday. I think I'm up to 5 different cake ideas. Now I just have to narrow it down to one!
beautiful cake!! which cake is on the bottom? the 8" or 9". could you tell me how you trimmed the cake. would love to make it if i could trim it properly. thank you for you help.
The 8" cakes are on the bottom with the 9" on top. I simply starting carving from the top down at an angle to make it taper like an actual cupcake. I used a 1M tip for the swirls on top building it up to a peak (I didn't level the top layer and that helped). You would be surprised at how simple this cake was to do, I know I was.
