State Fair Cake
All the figures and the sign are made of gumpaste - no wires because it was and entry in the Iowa State Fair and only edible decorations were to be used (I broke the ferris wheel several times before it finally held). Everything else is buttercream (though after the cake was done I thought of a way to do the tablecloth out of gumpaste. Too late though).
this is too cool the ferris wheel is awesome. great modeling
I thought for sure they were plastic- very good
What a cute cake and it is just amazing you made all of that! Great job=)
I commend you for being able to create all this scene without using wires as support. That is not an easy task.
I also thought the figures were plastic! You did an awesome job!!
Very carefully. I rolled out all of the white connecting pieces and the two legs and let them dry. I made supports out of posterboard for the seats to dry on
(cont. from above, sorry) Once the white supports were dry I made two white disks and assembelled the spokes on each side of the wheel. I also made holes for the legs, but didn't attach them yet. Once that was dry I took balls matching the chair colors and stuck them to each side of the chairs. I added a tube between the white disks and assembelled the rest except for the legs. Thin gumpaste supports = very unstable, so I added the legs and put it on the cake right before I entered it.
Forgot to add that by the end of the fair the ferris wheel had twisted and started to fall. And I broke several of the supports trying to put it together, so have extra made.
how did you do your ferris wheel?
