Thanks for the comments, the bride did not want a border, but it would have been more appealing to the eye to have some sort of a break between the layers.

karthurs, definitely can be done on BC, you may no something I don't about having to chill the bc before using royal on it. Unless you have an ingredient in the cake that needs to be refrigerated, then I should think leaving your cake out might work better than refrigerating. Then only time I chill bc is if I am putting fondant over it. Hope this helps.

You guys are too nice; karthurs, I just looked at some mendhi scrolls and went for it, actually, if you are looking to make it authentic, mendhi design is not as consistent as these scrolls. It has a lot of paisley patterns and different shapes. www.charmcitycakes.com with Duff Goldman off of Ace of Cakes has a perfect mendhi design on a cake.

I am looking to do a baby shower cake for an Indian friend, and thought some Mehendi design work would be perfect. Did you freehand this entire design? or use some sort of method for imprinting before the royal icing?

I love Charm City's cakes. I just wish their website had more detailed images of their cakes. One more question: Also, anyway this can be done on buttercream, chilled of course and not fondant?
