Lighthouse

Lighthouse on Cake Central

This is a birthday cake I made for my mom. It is butter cake with Raspberry & Peach filling. The bottom layer has a buttercream filling. I was totally inspired by A cake by Mac. Thank you so much for the inspiration! There were many things I would have liked to have done better, but I learn something with every cake I do...how to get the fondant to stick to the cake board, add corn syrup to do the string work. Oh well, next time! Thanks for looking!

Thanks everyone for all of the nice comments! The base is two 8 inch cakes. The top part is four 6-inch cakes that I carved for the lighthouse shape. The black part is two cupcakes stacked. I freehanded the stripe with a tooth pick and them outlined and filled it in with icing. The "rocks" are buttercream covered Cheerios. They could have used a little more icing, but I didn't want to make a whole batch just for that

Great job, strawberry0121. I love the idea of the Cheerios "rocks"--how did you do that? And you are more than welcome--I get inspired every time I get on CC.

Mac, I'm so glad you responded! I thinned the buttercream down and just mixed it all up. I used my hands because it was easier, but I think that it could have used a little more frosting. Oh well, it was just for Mom, not for a paying customer :) Thanks again!
