Impression Mat - Wedding Cake

Impression Mat - Wedding Cake on Cake Central

This 3 tiered wedding cake has a different design on each tier. The bottom tier has the wedding band impression mat design. The middle tier has the pearl design using fondant pearls. And the top tier has the diamond impression mat design. Using the impression mats make it so easy to create an elegant cake. Iced with a crusting buttercream icing that contains cream cheese.

Love the cake! I have a wedding cake to do, and I have been searching EVERYWHERE for impression mats. The only ones I can find are online and cost a small fortune. Can you let me know where you got yours? Thanks!

I purchased the impression mats online from EarleneCakes.com. I have an extra diamonds mat that I would sell. I accidentially purchased 2. If you're interested in purchasing PM me. The mats are really easy to work with. Just ice with a crusting buttercream or fondant and simple press the mat against the cake. I used a mat on the middle layer that put dots where the pearls would be placed. It's perfect for placing the pearls precisely instead of randomly.

Thanks for your compliments. I practiced a lot to get a nice smooth finish on the icing. I baked and froze the cake in advance because I had to transport them 8 hr to the reception. I iced and decorated them once I got there. It was a lot of prep work but I enjoyed it, plus it was for my aunt's wedding.

Your cakes look great. I have a wedding for my granddaughter at the end of August this year, can you tell me more about freezing and then transporting the cakes? What prep work do I need to do? I will have about a 3 hr drive in Texas heat.

Beautiful cake. Can you tell me how the crusting buttercream icing works? Also, would you happen to have the recipe? Is each cake 3" or 4" high?

on

I got the crusting buttercream recipe from this site. It has some flour in it to make it crust but you can also use Wilton's recipe that has meringue in it. Each tier was about 5" high.

on

can you use the wilton's buttercream only omit the meringue? Also I assume you would crumbcoat, re-ice then smooth first?

on

Keonicakes -- you can use the wilton's buttercream but keep the meringue - it helps with the crusting. I have also added a little cornstarch to achieve a crusty finish. Good Luck!
