Dad's Patriotic Cake

Dad's Patriotic Cake on Cake Central

My dad's birthday is July 4, but we had a small party (like, 5 of us LOL) today - I think he was pretty floored. Everything is done in MMF, I had to run the stars straight up on the top tier because I had major problems with it cracking. I airbrushed some of the stars with a mix of lustre dust and vodka (although not sure I recommend it as it clogs a little). The large MMF stars that said Happy Birthday Dad, well, one busted on the way to the house so I skipped them - shows detail better though. :)

I love it, just gorgeous. I know from having the same experience that you have to leave the candles lit for about 20 sec, before u blow them out or they won't relight(lol).

Ahhhhh, the wax had started to drip on the cake so we all helped blow them out (snce they went around the cake LOL) quickly. Oh well. Those were only $1 - the 4 star swirly candles on top were more at $3.50 (they're Wilton....of course LOL)...

All I can say is WOW, and your dad's birthday cake ROCKS way better than my dad's bday cake HAHAHA, seriously, that is WAY more fancy than you said it would be lol

I'll post a better pic without the stars as soon as I get one. The skinny candles were supposed to be "trick" candles but they never relit. Oh well! The cakes are 6" key lime with coconut BC and 9" chocolate - the BC had the slightest hint of raspberry.

LOL Thanks. :) It was definitely worth all the time I spent on it....was worth no sleep seeing the reaction on my dad's face! :D
