Frangipani Oval

Frangipani Oval on Cake Central

7 inch oval caramel mud cake (courtesy of nati). Inspiration for design from nati and fran... thank you. Not fully happy with the turn out.... too many gaps in top.. perhaps leaves or fillers needed. Cake is a gift for one of my childrens school teachers for her birthday. All comments and feedback welcome.

gumpaste frangipanis coloured with chalk and steamed to set the colour... hubby loves making these

Absolutely gorgeous! I love the design and frangipani are some of my favourite flowers. The shading on yours are so great! I agree, maybe some filler leaves or flowers, but it's still beautiful. Also (and believe me, I'm no expert!) if you curled or "rolled" the inside edge of each petal just slightly, they would look even more realistic. You did an awesome job, I could only hope to make flowers that pretty!

Yes side stripes are fondant pushed through a clay gun.. very easy but time consuming. The flowers are gumpaste and the centre colour was created by chalk and then steamed to set the colour. Thank you all.

Karen, to make the gaps seem less obvious, try using the same colour fondant as the cake to hold your flowers in place. If the icing was a green colour it would've been far less noticeable than the colour you used. I would recommend using some leaves to fill next time and also some buds, I used them on my cake similar to this. I really think that you need to take some time to read all the positive responses people have to your cakes and stop comparing yourself to others, you've done well!

I have read them all and appreciate them Fran. I hear what you are saying regarding comparing our work but as most of our cakes are based around an idea or cake that someone else has already done it is very hard then not to compare it. It would be different if we were producing an original. That is me, that is who I am.. I do take on board all comments and feedback as I believe they help us immensly.k
