Zak's Volcano

Zak's Volcano on Cake Central

I did this cake back shortly before I finished Wilton 1, for my nephew's Luau-themed birthday party. I used the Wonder Pan for the top, overfilling it so it reached the maximum 8" diameter. For the base tier I used a 9"x3" round pan. The French Buttercream icing was piped on in a shell pattern, then smoothed slightly with a hot spatula to give it the texture you see in the side. The shell pattern was not smoothed beneath the raspberry filling/lava. The sides were airbrushed.

gorgeous........this is THE BEST volcano cake I've seen thus far.......how did you get the icing so shimmery??? On the sides.....the green looks like it's glowing almost.....just beautiful

Thanks so much for your feedback! I just overpainted the green with a bare touch of brown, to give it a more natural mix of plant a and soil-look. The gray was an 11:1 white to black ratio of airbrush color. The lava is just basic raspberry filling from the 2 lb tube, left to run down the front. Theresa
