Pinnkpreppy - sometimes a little of both. the yellow roses started with light yellow gumpaste, and the pink roses i started with pale pink. The leaves I use a light green. The lilies started all white.
I taught myself the basics, but I took one 3 hour class with Scott Clark Wooley - do goodle search & you will find his website - I think it is www.cakesbydesign.cc, but check to be sure
he's expensive but worth every penny. I took a beginner class with 5 other people. I believe he also will do private lessons - but not on weekends. Even getting his DVDs (also $$$) would be a good investment, though.
