fancycakes You did a fantastic job"this is exactly what i'm looking for to do for a grooms cake. Would you mind giving me some pointers on what you did.thanks
Sure. I used two 1/4 sheet pans. I stacked them, then cut out a curve on the top right hand corner and a smaller curve on the left side. Then I cut out a long rectangular piece where the keys would be. And sculpted the curve on either side of the keys. I used a piece from the large cut to make the bench. Then I put the filling in between the layers. Then iced the white part on the bottom half. Then piped a black line around the center then filled in the black sides and smoothed it. No more room.
Wow, thank you. I used a lot of black gel color to get it really black. No I didn't use a wilton pan. I cut it from two 1/4 sheets. And It wasn't my countertop(I wish). This was a piano recital at the house of a wealthy friend.
this is awesome, my cousin wants a baby grand piano for her 40th birthday, which is coming up so i wanted to make her a baby grand piano cake but i wanted it to be a 3d but couldn't figue out quite how to do it, this is beautiful, any chance you could give me some directions on how to create this cake, very much appreciated thanks

I love this cake!!!
You did an excellent job!! I thought the piano was freestanding as well. Excellent detail work.
Very cool cake, from the thumbnail I thought the piano and bench were actually standing on legs with no cake under them. Good optical illusion!
Great cake! How in the world did you get that icing so black?
I thought they were standing up too...you did a great job!
