We celebrated mother's day 2 weeks early as my brother was going away for 6 weeks and would miss it. My mom and grandma were in love with this cake and that's the best thing you can hope for!
2006 Mother's Day Contest Winner
Congratulations Patricia!!!! Your cake is simply beautiful!!!!!! I'm glad we can finally comment on these cakes!! Be prepared for lots of "you have a new comment" emails! I have a feeling you'll receive many! Just look at how many times your cake's been saved into fav's!!! BTW, I sent you a PM a while ago. Just check your private messages!
Thank you so much! I really enjoyed making it and it made my mom/grandma happy! I didn't even realize I had won till I got the e-mail! It was so exciting!
Thanks so much everyone! It tasted yummy as well. Top was a chocolate cake with vanilla IMBC and bottom was an orange vanilla cake with mango passionfruit IMBC
this is a very beautiful cak congratulations. I am hoping to be this good soon. I have just started decorating cakes and my goal is to do wedding cakes.
Thanks! The borders around the top are crimped, you have to do it as soon as you cover the cake in fondnat otherwise the fondant will crack. You can practice on a pice of fondant to get the hand of it!
Thanks so much! It's been just over a year since my first course. I got to study with a top cake designer, I learned so much from her that cakes like that are pure pleasure!
Thanks so much! the petal pan was harder to cover with buttercream than a round tier but to cover with fondant is pretty much the same. The only difference is that you can smooth a round tier easier tha a petal but with practice it becomes easier. I torture my family by only bringing fondnat covered cakes as practice, no matter how small they don't get any cakes coverd in just buttercream!
WOW, this is the most beautiful cake I've ever seen!! Without reading that it was dedicated to a mother, I could have guessed it because it looks so tender.
This cake would bring a tear to my late grandmother's eye. Her favorite color was lavender. Your cake design is sophisticated, timeless, elegant, and feminine. The little details around the borders are well-executed and charming. Love it, love, love it! Congrats
Thank you so much! It was for last years mother's day (for my mom and grandma). I hosted it to make sure they didn't have to cook (for once). They really loved the cake, my grandma took the vase home. Seeing the joy in their eyes is the best thing!
Beautiful work! I an inspired by you to create a wonderful cake for Mother's Day this year! We are having a large group of Moms for our special day so I need to make a cake to feed 20. Were the flower cake pans you used 8 and 10 inch? I can't seem to find them large enough. Thanks for any info!
Thanks! I love my crimpers and I used to be so scared to use them! As long as your fondant is not too thin the crimping doesn't hurt it. Also, crimp on fresh fondnat, just after you put it on the cake, don't wait till you stack it! The flowers were made in a silicone mold (doublesided), I let them dry than painted them wet with a shiny purple dust and lemon extract mix. Than the green cenres were piped on. I think the sizes were a 6" round and a 9" petal? I think that's what Wilton petal pans...
This is so beautiful and perfectly flawless. And you crimped the edges too! I've been wanting to try a crimper, I love the affect it gives. This is just a wonderful cake. One of THE prettiestcakes I've ever seen.
