I made this cake for my parents' 45th anniversary. They honeymooned at a cabin with a huge ravine of aspen trees and brought us there for family vacations later. This cake is all buttercream -I mottled the gray buttercream to kind of mimic the snowy shadows in the winter, piped and carved the knots and nooks into the buttercream aspens and painted the details (including their initials) with gel food colors. Topped with a gumpaste flower and red berries to finish the wintry feel.
