Fat Trout

Fat Trout on Cake Central

This is one I have been dying to make and finally got to it! Baked a 9x13 and cut it in half, torted and stacked 3 layers, then carved to shape. Covered in fondant, made markings with veining tool, used back of tip for the scales, and toothpick for the fins and tail. Used picture of real trout for color guide. Used green luster dust, for top, pale yellow for lower middle and super pearl for bottom. Used carnation dust for center band. Layered all colors for tail and top fins.

OMG - you never cease to amaze me! Just when I think you can't ever surprise me with your talent, you go and do it again! This one is SOOO awesome! I think I like it better than Elegant Cheesecakes!!! Pat on the back for you!

Thanks! It was her cake that gave me the push...I had lost my mojo for a while. And it does look better! :-)

Lettuce was made of fondant and pressed with lettuce leaf, then brushed with diluted piping gel. Tomatos are fondant painted with a mix of dusts. All future questions answered in advance! :D

It sure does! For a split second, on three occasions so far, I forgot it was there and it scared me...Hilarious!

Fantabulous cake! So real looking- Wow, double wow. I'll have to remember the diluted piping gel trick for the wet look. I've also used karo syrup (for a slip'n'slide I once made)

Awesome job! The lettuce is amazing. I saw this cake done on FoodNetwork last week and I dare say yours is much better.

Your cake is just perfect. I saw one done in a black skillet once. I've been dying to try it, but it would never look as awesome as yours!!!
