Daughter's Anniversary Cake

Daughter's Anniversary Cake on Cake Central

This was a rushed cake for my daughter's anniversary. Chocolate cake, Wilton whipped icing and roses, but...I was in a hurry and used Royal icing for the leaves and mounds to put the roses on. Don't do that. If you look closely at the leaves you will see they are starting to run. By the time I got to her house, just about 1/2 of the top roses were sliding down the one side of the cake. When they say that any grease will liquify the royal icing, believe it! I just wasn't paying attention at the time.

OH I think it's just so lovely!!! The colors are nice! I know what you mean, though.. It is so frustrating when things happen to our cakes like that! It's nice you got a picture first, though. ;)

Thanks tc. We are our own worst critics! I have to say though, it tasted really-really good and my daughter and her hubby loved it!

I am always looking for a cake design that is beautiful but fast. Your cake fits that bill! Thank-you for the idea, (if you don't mind me using it) I am saving this to my favorites. Thank-you also for the advice about the royal icings. Look at it this way, we all learn from each others mistakes, and it really helps all become better decoraters in the end!

Thanks sheena, mcginnis I don't mind at all you using the design. What greater compliment could there be than someone wanting to use one of my cakes for help with theirs! This is a wonderful site for ideas and help, everyone is extremely helpful in every way possible!

Real pretty cake. That is so strange, I use royal icing a lot and never had this problem. Even straight on the buttercream. (But I make all my buttercream my self.) Anyway the cakes looks lovley from here.

Very pretty I love the color..I too have had trouble with royal icing colored flowers running on the whipped cream base. I think it is because the whipped cream is a liquid base no fat.(not non fat hehe)

Thanks all of you. This was my first cake after I finished all courses last year. If I had let the leaves set up and dry, the running wouldn't have happened. I should have taken a picture after all the sliding and posted it in the "Cake Disaster" forum!
