Darcie
Firstly let me thank twinsline7 for the inspiration for this cake - I saw her Dora transformation and just had to do one of my own - so here's the Dora pan masquerading as my daughter Darcie (age 3)! I'm so thrilled to find another use for this pan - I'm thinking of putting this on my website for my customers to have their own daughters done the same - what do you think?
I LOVE IT!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU ...so much for using my cake for inspiration!! :D I am soooo thrilled someone actually used an idea from me!!! Your cake is ADORABLE!! Didn't your daughter just love it??? I plan on doing the same with my "Sissy" cake!!!
Oh, this is pretty! I love how you were able to smooth ice her skin. Looks wonderful. :)
She hasn't seen it yet, it's 10.20pm here and I didn't start decorating until after she went to bed - I hope she likes it in the morning (only problem being that she seems to think that we'll be having a party now - and it's not her birthday until July 1 lol!). Crisseyann - the trick to the skin is to let the buttercream just start to crust over (literally a few minutes after decorating), then dip your clean finger into water and gently dab over the area you want smooth - works like a charm! It's ...
that is sooo funny my cake happened the same way.....in the morning my daughter was thrilled!! Then she said she would wait until I put up the balloons and everyone sang Happy Birthday.....she is 4 so I was able to pull off explaining it was a "just because" cake!!! I bet your daughter is going to stare at it for a while like mine did!!
Oh Darcie is such a little cutie pie! What a wonderful idea for a little girls birthday, I plan on saving this and refering back to it when I have a customer requesting a Dora cake. I think doing what you did is way better than a Dora cake any ole' day! Also, I'd let Darcie think it is her birthday, I'd just tell her we're gonna have a little party today and a bigger birthday party another day. Being 3 I'm sure she won't realize the difference between a year or 4 mos. She sound so adorable. God Ble...
I just made my first Dora cake... great idea on what to do with the pan!
WOW...i would have never thought to do that...my daughter's bday is coming up and this is very cute. I love it...how did you get the skin color so realistic?
shhh....don't show this to my niece or I'll be having to make one for her...but doubt I could do it as well as you did! excellent job and great idea
Hi KCsmom98 - skin tone was acheived with Wilton's copper paste colouring - it's perfect! Just add a little to your icing with a cocktail stick until you get the colour you want..
I think you did a great job on it. I like the idea of using it to do the cake like someone elses daughter not just dora.
I would DEFINITELY add this to your website! What little girl wouldn't love a cake that looks just like her?!? Seems like it would give you endless possibilities for personalization! Thanks for sharing! :)
Very cute! I was going to ask if the little girl in your avatar was your daughter, and now I know the answer! She is so beautiful! (So is the cake! LOL) I only have a little boy...so no Dora pan for me. :( I'm still thinking of an alternate use for my Spongebob pan!
Awesome idea twinsline7!
Really a lovely and resourceful way of putting Dora the Explorer pan to another use.
What cool Idea. I hope you don't mind if I steal your idea and make a cake for my daughter and her friends.
A very clever idea! For a while there when I saw the thumbnail, I just thought maybe Dora had decided to dye her hair, put in blue contact lenses and used body makeup to make her skin paler! lol  This is actually a great looking cake and if you got your daughter looking like Dora, or vice versa, I'm sure your daughter probably loved it!
