In the UK thats all we use..dont tend to use buttercream to finish a cake..only to put inside the cake..

Is the black outlining fondant too? Or is that piped? It looks great!
Everything ont he cake is sugarpaste...even the black..I use a sugarshaper/claygun which you put the paste into and it shapes it for you an excellent piece of equipment for novelty cakes you can do lines basketweave..rope anything...its a gun which has little discs which you can use for various details
