I made this cake of Max for my granddaughter's 3rd B-day. I had enlarged a picture of Max and then traced the outline on top of cake. Filled in (with star tip) going from the picture. Eyes, however, are from the picture, i.e., paper. I cannot draw eyes ... always look creepy. Need to practice those.

Adorable and so well done, love the mini Oreo border too! Really sweet cake. If you have a picture, you could scan the eyes in reverse, put parchment over the picture and use candy melts to outline and fill in. Or use a pink candy melt wafer unmelted and just pipe a brown heart on it. I often use chocolate chips upside down for eyes too. Just thought that might be helpful.
