This is a cake I made for my son's end-of-year gymnastics awards banquet. It was outdoors, so I chose a "summery" theme of bumblebees and flowers. It was the first time I tried making the bees, which are gumpaste. I drew the stripes with a food coloring pen. I put a little "disco dust" on the wings, though you can't really see that in the photos. I made the royal icing grass and flower clumps on the side ahead of time and glued them on at the last minute.
