This was for my son's first Birthday with a Prince theme. The cake is a 6 inch cake. Bottom is wrapped in golden yellow fondant. Top was iced with royal blue buttercream to look like velvet. The crown spikes were made of gum paste that I rolled out and cut. I royal iced sugar gems around crown and piped details with royal icing. This was my first attempt at a "real" cake. Made April 2009. I would have somehow added a curve to the gum paste spikes so they would have fit the arc of the cake better, but overall I was very satisfied with my attempt.
