Made this for my boyfriend - he used to be really into guitars and I'm trying to get him to re-realize his love for them...lol First time doing this type of cake - the stand alone took me many hours of planning and contructing over the past few weeks. The neck of the guitar is wood, covered with foil and fondant and there is a wood base to the guitar head which has about 10 little wooden dowels glued into it for support. The base of the stand has a notch where the guitar head sits in, and the two wooden pieces are together with four dowels between both pieces - interlocking. The cake is the head of the guitar and is covered with fondant and fondant details. This is one cake I completely wish I had an airbrush system - I used the Wilton spray do the detail on the head - the red worked okay, but the black was useless and just wet the cake. I ended up having to paint the sides black. The string is elastic silver thread. Many people at the party were standing right beside the cake wondering where the cake was - mistaking it for a real guitar. A good sign I think!!
