Christmas Cake

This is a fondant covered cake with a gumpaste crown of thorns and gumpaste ivy and holly leaves. The middle layer was inspired by mamigrande teapot cake on this website. I hand painted the background of the nativity and used a stencil for the figures in the nativity. The purple drapery on the bottom layer represents royality because Jesus Christ is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. The spherical shaped cake in the middle layer represent the "world". The Ivy is often used as a symbol for eternal life and everlasting love. It is intertwined with the Holly which is often used as a symbol for the crown of thorns. The crown of thorns reminds us that Jesus Christ was born into this world as a baby to become our Savior. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son..." John 3:16
