Birthday cake for a friend made to look like the Book of Spells from the movie Hocus Pocus. Cake Mix Doctor sour cream yellow cake with dark chocolate frosting. Covered and decorated in fondant. Stitches are royal icing. You can't really see it in the pictures, but I put some texture on the cover by pressing wadded Saran Wrap into the fondant to make it look more like wrinkled skin. "Pages" were made by repeatedly and randomly pressed a knife into the yellowed fondant on the sides. Coated the eyeball in piping gel to give it a wet look. Snakes are painted with silver Luster Dust; eyes are silver dragees.

Got to use my fondant tools for this one, and they really made a difference in places! Had a lot of fun and learned a lot too. Best part was that if something wasn't quite right (fondant texture, folds or tears) it fit right in since the book is supposed to be old and made of skin!
