Practice Cake

Practice Cake on Cake Central

Can you tell which Wilton level I'm in? That's right!! Level 3. I just wanted to practice the techniques we learned last night, as well as the upside down frosting technique. I took the color combination from a ribbon (the upper border) I had bought for trim for my daughter's dress and never used. I like the cake, but am happy it is only as big as it is, the lighter green just seems so drab. The cake itself is an attempt at an egg nog flavored cake with cranberry filling.

Wow. Very pretty. So what do you think about the upside down frosting? I tried it and decided that I just don't have the room in my freezer. Also my waxed paper kept leaving a rippled look on my cake. But yours looks perfect!

Kerri - I liked it a lot for the sides, but I am doing something wrong with my icing because it always (always!!!) has little air bubbles in it and you can see those on the cake surface. I did have to do some rearranging in the freezer but that's probably a good thing! Overall it took longer but the efforts were worth it because I am horrible at icing it smooth on my own!

Looks beautiful. Let us know how it tastes! Sounds like a great combination for the holidays.

Very nice job...I LOVE the color of your green icing....and the brush embroider looks very nice.. I can tell that you're a perfectionist. I'm not familiar with the upside down frosting technique...???

Thanks Phoov. I suppose I am a bit of a perfectionist, as much as I can be as someone who is brand new at this. I think the embroidery is my very, very favorite thing we've learned so far. Check the articles section for the upside down frosting - it really does make a smooth frosting. Thanks for your nice thoughts.
