A new client loved my other barbie doll cakes and wanted me to make one for her daughters 4th birthday party. The theme was princess, and she just loves purple. I decided to do a double skirt design b/c we had 100% humidity today and all my fondant was just sucking in the moisture and showing signs of tearing. I saw a few flaws that I wanted to cover up and couldn't just do it with flowers alone (LOL) I think the dress came out looking nice. Royal icing details around the ends of the skirts. Hershey Chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. I hand carved the skits and the ruffle/indents. Yes carving a refrigerted cake is so so so much easier!! This barbie had extra long legs, so the bottom layer was 2" Styrofoam, followed my 4 layers of cake so i was able to anchor her legs into it. I love these cakes b/c I can be so creative with outfit. This time he needed to be modestly dressed since the family was religious. I've never covered the arms before, but i think i went well for my first time.
