21St Birthday Cake

21St Birthday Cake on Cake Central

My customer's wife is celebrating the big 21. The Cognac bottle is pulled sugar with an edible image. The Martini glasses are real and hand lettered with BC. The cake is a white cake with BC and edible images as well. Thanks for looking and enjoy!

critique subgroup member: Nice job! I like the idea of the "then and now" pics.. nice idea! careful on the borders of the edible images, make sure the border actually covers the edge of the image. The borders of the cake are great, nice and evenly sized and spaced! for me the cake board is a bit big and the board covering could have been a complimentary color to the cake. overall well done!

Critique Subgroup Member: Great job. I would have switched the pictures of the birthday girl so the baby was first and 'now' was next...we generally read left to right. Other than that, your colors, writing, and borders look great. I agree with practiceandpatience about the board. Overall, though, very nice job.

Nice cake; I like the piped designs; I agree the photo order should have been reversed. The piping around the photos is a bit heavy and irregular and the angles of the two photos don't match. You do very good writing! And, sorry, but I think the edible image and pulled sugar need to have been sized to match each other better.

critique group member: I also think that the photos should have been switched around. I think that maybe if you hand cut these you could've used a round template over them to get a more even and perfect look. and yes, watch the borders. Your writing is very nice and the Cognac bottle is very nice. I am not sure why the colors are blue though (if that is her favortie color?) But I would've picked something a little more adult feeling, especially for a 21st bday...or maybe just a different type of blue.

Critique Subgroup member: I agree with what the others have already commented on so there's no since in re-hashing that. Your border is fantastic and I really love your bright blue

Critique subgroup member: Everyone in the group knows what a pain I am on handwriting, but yours is lovely. The design is okay and placed well enough. But other then the edge thing with the border, I want to talk to you about using more then one color. Use another color as accent. Your board is too big should be 2-3 inches bigger only - sorry pet peeve and then the top and bottom border compete in design. Should be one dominate and one subordinate style not two strong borders.Your pulled sugar is fun!

Critique group member:Welcome to our group! Ok improvement wise I think the borders look a little sloppy try and move slower so each shape is more defined. The scroll work looks nice but I I would liked to have seen another color also.

critique subgroup member: Welcome! I am viewing this late, I guess, so my comments mirror the others. The pictures would be better switched and I'd like to see the borders around them completely cover their edges. The blue is nice and the scrolls are perfect. The bc is very smooth and nice. It's a very nice, sentimental birthday cake that incorporates the "21" theme very tastefully. Well done.

critique group member: I agree about practicing the borders - it kind of throws the cake off - makes it look a little crooked. I personally don't care for the Wilton presses, but I think maybe the scrolls in the bottom corners would've evened out the design a bit - all the elements are towards the top of the cake. You did a great job on the pulled sugar - i would never even attempt it!! :)
