Sadie's Guitar

Sadie's Guitar on Cake Central

My first (and, I hope, last!) guitar cake! Order was for a blue electric guitar with not-so-girly flowers. This is life-size, carved from two 12x18 sheet cakes, WASC covered in buttercream and FondX. Only things not edible are the strings and the tacks holding them in. HUGE thanks to everyone on CC who helped me with all of my questions! Comments and constructive criticism are greatly appreciated!

Thank you guys so much! steffla - I say it's my last because it was the most stressful cake I have ever done! It is just a single layer. I wasn't sure about that either so I posted a thread and everyone agreed one layer would be best. HTH!

I just read your post....AMAZING CAKE! I am jealous...me and my mom tried to make a cake like this and it was no where near this good! Chalk it up to a lesson learned! You should be proud! :D

step0nmi - Thank you! That's so funny you should say that, this must just be a mother-daughter cake project because my poor mom got stuck helping me on this one too! By the time we were done she was saying, this is definitely our last cake!! haha Couldn't have done it without her though!

absolutely amazing!! I know your pain........I made one and had to eat some of the cost too....although I don't think as much as you had to!!! You easily could have gotten $200 out of this!!!!

WOW! That's so realistic. You did a great job!!! :D  I'm sorry for the undercharge, but we all have lessons to learn. Thanks for sharing yours!!

All I can say is B-E-A-UTIFUL. I would never have attempted to make that. You are an artist. I would not have felt comfortable paying only $75 for this cake. Pat yourself on the back because you did a (insert whatever comes after spectacular) job on this cake. I love it and I'm not even a guitar person. Bravo and all the other stuff that means good job.

Oh my gosh!!! And you were worried about how your cake would come out! It's gorgeous! 8O You put my guitar to shame by a long shot!

If you have to do it again it will be easier this time though. Now you know all the pitfalls and what NOT to do next time. :) Fabulous cake!

what did u use for the strings and to tack them down? This cake is amazing! Im making one like it for my friends bday, I just havent figured out what to use for the strings.

thank you so much! The strings are blending filament you find in the cross stitching section. Then it's held down with regular thumb tacks on the body, and upholstery tacks on the neck. If you have anymore questions just send me a pm! I'm not getting email notices on my comments anymore for some reason.
