Anna's Dad

Anna's Dad on Cake Central

My friend asked me to duplicate a painting that her dad did for his birthday. I tried to do it with my brand new airbrush but that didn't go very well because I had no clue how to use it. I ripped off the fondant and started over by just using paintbrushes. I really have to learn to use the airbrush.....

critique group member: I do not have an airbrush, but I would think this picture would be hard to paint using one. I think brushes was the way to go. You replicated the painting beautifully. Your green ran a little in the front, but that's the only "flaw" I see and it's not even a flaw! I might have chosen a different covering for this cake's board, but that's just me. Very nicely done. I am sure your friend and her Dad were beyond thrilled!

Critique subgroup member: WOW!!! This is very nice. Not many can recreate art work on a cake!!! The only thing I would watch out for is the fondant at the bottom, it's not completely attached to the cake. Other than that, it's beautiful!

critique group member: your paintins skills are exquisite! that is one area I need to learn. The one green runoff at the bottom and maybe something to hide the edges where the cake and board meet are the only things I noticed and I had to look hard to get past the beauty of your painting. I also agree that maybe a simple while board might have kelped make the cake pop more and would have looked like the white border seen around the picture

Critique group member: WOW! Your cake is a masterpiece! No need for the airbrush...what you did with your paintbrush is amazing!! My only suggestion concerns the cake board. You may want to find a color that better compliments the cake itself. Very nice.

critique subgroup member: INCREDIBLE!!! such artistry! it is almost an identical match. my only critique would be a bottom border, and maybe to have written the birthday greeting on a plaque as it looks a bit last minute and cramped on the board

Critique subgroup member: Yes airbrushing is very difficult and a person needs to practice a ton to feel comfortable. As for the cake, the fondant is very smooth! I would have given it a border to finish it and maybe a "frame" for the top of the cake to set it off and it would have probably covered the green brush stroke off the edge. Also gotta work on your handwriting, little squiggly. As for your painting - well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

critique group member.. The painting is absolutely fantastic. My only suggestion would be a different board, as the silver kinda draws your eye away from the cake itself.

critique group member: just...wow. Your attention to detail is amazing. I love how well you duplicated the picture and your cake looks like a wonderful watercolor image. VERY impressive.

Critique group member: Wow! This is incredible! 8O My only critique would be to have done maybe a very small bead border aroud the top and bottom just to frame it a little bit.
