Ornament Cupcakes

Ornament Cupcakes on Cake Central

I made these for Christmas dinner and some to hand out for gifts... They are Red Velvet and Strawberry Cupcakes, with cream cheese icing and a hint of peppermint flavoring added...the tops and hooks are made with and covered in fondant icing, and painted with gold luster dust. Enjoy the pics and Merry Christmas,Mary :o)

Was this made with the wilton mini ball pan? Also, when I worked with fondant and a circle I tend to not know how to make the seems come together...when you wrap it how did you seal it together?

bailey4302 , I did use the Wilton mini ball pan,but only one half is on top of a cupcake...Ya know I've never covered anything totally round, so I'm not sure how one would seal the seams up,thoughts to ponder indeed. I would think with what ever medium you work with when doing fondant, and seam it on the bottom of the cake???

Wow.. so pretty.. could i ask how you got the fondant to look so smooth.. i tried making it and only ended up making a huge mess :(

serenelui, I used the mini Wilton fondant roller with the 1/4 roller bands on it...I did noticed the thinner I made the fondant at first the harder it was to work with on the cupcakes, so I kept the bands on, and I used a 4 1/2 inch round cutter as well,it was a perfect fit.

you make it sound so easy... my main problem is smoothing the fondant over the domes.. i always end up with bubbles or creases..

serenelui, I did a lot of smoothing and shaping with my hands, I noticed when the icing underneath got warm with my body temp it was easier to smooth the fondant out. Anytime slight crease would show up I would lift that area up a tad right away and re-smooth it over and over till smoothed out for me. I didn't have bubble issues, but if I had of,I would have stick it with a straight pin and smoothed it out that way.
